Brussels. First night dinner we went for Steph’s recommendation of Lola, located directed across Sablon Square from our hotel. We were the first one’s there when it opened at 7pm, and it quickly filled up after we sat down. Fantastic service, food and ambiance. Everyone ordered different items on the menu, making us think everything was good, no clear favorite.
How can it go wrong when you start with a bowl of freshly made chips; delicious. Followed with bread and the best butter we have ever tasted. Starters of daily special of spring rolls and duo of shrimp and cheese croquettes with fried parsley. Gordon’s main was hanger steak with shallot sauce, fries and salad. I’m glad his steak was a gastronomic success, as the looks of it would have stopped me cold when it arrived. I had cod with hand peeled shrimp (sitting on top of the fish-again, a bit of a shocking look at first) mashed potatoes, vegetables and mousseline sauce. Both meals were delicious. Rated my cod as my best meal in Brussels. For dessert we shared tarte tatin with vanilla ice cream and incredible vanilla bean whip cream, served on top of a buttery shortbread layer. Top meal, we left very happy.
