Brussels. This place was on Gordon’s bucket list and it did not disappoint. The genius of the engineering and design was shocking. We had a walk around the outside before and after entering.

Built in 1958 for the World Exhibition, it is a giant model of a crystal molecule of iron, magnified 165 billion times. It stands 335 feet (102 meters) tall on the Heysel Plateau. An elevator leads to the panoramic view at the top, and escalators—the longest in Europe when built—link the spheres. The highest sphere has the restaurant.
