The goal was to go to the cultural center/museum to see the dinosaurs. We planned a walk to take in a few sites along the way, the lovely promenade along the beach, the Kuwait National Assembly building, the Al Maqsab Gate and the Jaber Al-Ahmad Mosque.
So now it’s 104 degrees, mid-day sun…you could see people passing by us scratching their heads. We’re pretty sure they knew we were tourists, crazy tourists, because as we learned, no one walks in Kuwait City, not even the tourists. We were using gps, but somehow, we missed a turn. The app kept telling us we were close, but it was like the elusive mirage in the desert. We finally got close enough to speak to a guard at the museum after walking for over 3.5 hours and he tells us we’re in the wrong place. We retraced our steps, we are now dragging, soaked and bright red, looking like we should have passed out hours ago. As we near the entrance, we’re blasted yet again with the reality that no one walks in Kuwait City when we are told there is no pedestrian entrance, we need to walk down into the parking garage to enter. We manage the down ramp and upon entering after 4 hours to get there, the guard tells us what we came to see is not at this cultural center…it’s at another museum. We were the fish that day. But we did have a fantastic lunch once we recovered from heat stroke.
