Vienna. We wanted an authentic Austrian experience, so we went for this restaurant, open since 1447! It’s a bit of a tourist pull with their famous Signature Room, where diners including Mark Twain, Beethoven, Mozart, Luciano Pavarotti and Johnny Cash signed the walls and ceiling and you can book the room and decipher all the signatures while you eat. Our waiter brought us into the room after dinner and pointed out Tupac and Snoop Dog and a few others we can’t remember, great experience. We had excellent soups (apple-celeriac cream and beef consomme) snitzel was average and Gordon had the gulasch with dumplings slices…you can see in the picture they are heavy and stodgy, not great. The waiter was really nice throughout the meal and insisted on bringing us a complimentary apple strudel for dessert, which was actually warm and delicious. We probably should have tried their specialty roast pork or crispy pig leg, but I don’t think we’ll go back. Very pricey for average food.
