The Bimmah Sinkhole is located in a park and looks like the most boring place you could go. Completely flat, a few trees, a long walk and then you see the wall and look over and it’s like another world. It is 50m x 70m wide and 20m deep. It was originally formed by the collapse of the surface layer due to the deterioration of the underlying limestone. Locals originally believed it was created by a meteorite, and the Arabic name means “the deep well of the (falling) star”. It’s a very steep walk down and very rocky along the water. The rocks were so hot it was hard to lean on them as we got in the water. It was warm in some places and then cool water seemed to flow in from somewhere. We had the whole place to ourselves so we swam for an hour. The fish were so dense, and they’re the kind that like to nibble at you. They left me alone but tormented Gordon.
